An Audio Line Transformer is a device used to match the impedance of audio equipment, such as microphones or speakers, to the impedance of the audio system they are connected to. Impedance matching is important to ensure efficient transfer of audio signals and to prevent signal loss or distortion.

Impedance matching audio transformers always give their impedance ratio value from one winding to another by the square of the their turns ratio. That is, their impedance ratio is equal to its turns ratio squared and also its primary to secondary voltage ratio squared

Audio Transformer Uses

There are two main uses of audio transformers, impedance matching, as well as signal transmission and distribution.

1. Impedance matching (as shown in the figure), the output transformer signal converts the low-resistance of 8 ohms of the speaker into a high-resistance value of hundreds of ohms, which matches the output impedance of the amplifier so that the audio power output by the amplifier is maximized and the distortion is minimized.

2. Signal transmission and distribution
